Corners is a forward-thinking art and design space nestled in the charming town of Livingston Manor in the Catskills Mountains, New York.

Groth partnered with designer and neighbor David McGillivray to transform a humble mid century building on Main Street into a calming and welcoming environment in which to feature artworks from local and global artists as well as a curated selection of books and design objects.

Groth took a multi-faceted approach in order to deliver a space that is as sustainable as it is beautiful. Natural materials are carefully paired with a design-for-disassembly approach in order to consider the full material life cycle of the space.

01

Monolithic slab in marine grade finish for durability

02

Reclaimed scrap I-beam, bisected and stacked

03

Local bluestone boulder

Anchoring the retail area is a central table perched delicately yet firmly between a stack of reclaimed I-beams and a boulder sourced from a local stone yard.

Standardized aluminum extrusions support glossy white shelves to highlight smaller design objects and stationary.

01

Multi-level stepped picture rails

02

Movable small item display

A monolithic 20-foot shelving unit creates a stunning backdrop for constantly rotating selection of framed art prints.

Natural oak veneer plywood and standardized aluminum honeycomb panels combine to create the modular display cases.

The modular display cases perform multiple functions as point of sale, small object display, and drink counters, and they've been designed to be dismantled or reconfigured as needed to extend their material lifecycle.
